October 14, 2016 was filled with some of my favorite things: a sparkly pink dress, gelato, pasta, good music, eclectic art, wine, lots of laughter and dancing; and the wedding of two fantastic people. I’m probably bias, because Lauren’s my cousin, but I loved capturing this day. Mostly because at least a third of the images are outtakes of the bride, and I now have an ample supply of photos to share on her birthday each year, but also because it’s incredibly special to be invited into the incredibly intimate, yet oddly public, moment when they commit to loving, and honoring each other and God FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES, in front of everybody. It feels big, every time (no matter how many weddings I see), and beautiful and brave, and you’re all my heroes. Love each other well friends. Thanks for a great day. Also shout out to an awesome wedding party – you guys and gals rock, and great vendors (list below).

Kelly & David ~ Minneapolis, Wedding

Ok, confession time. When I heard Lakewood Cemetery was the location for Kelly and David’s wedding I was a little nervous, and there may have been visions of the wedding party intermixed between headstones replaying in my head.  But let me tell you, the Lakewood Memorial Chapel and surrounding grounds are one of the most beautiful places I’ve discovered here in the Twin Cities.  However, the beauty of this chapel was nothing compared to the radiance of Kelly and David’s smiles as one of them would ask the other, “Do you know what today is?” and the other would answer “Our wedding day!”  The beauty of the day continued into the service which was a wonderful reminder of God’s plan for marriage, and that despite the beauty of the day-it was just a day.  That the colors, the make-up, the hair, the gorgeous surroundings were all just details in a day that began a life together, a life united in a God who designed each detail in loving perfection.  May God continue to bless you two on this beautiful journey! Maggie. Diana. Melissa. Laura. Four girls as different as their preference in shoes but all four amazing young ladies.  I got to hang out with these girls this afternoon down at the Guthrie and the Mill Ruins Park in Minneapolis. Melissa (you might recognize Melissa from here and here) and Laura both graduated in 2010 and will be heading off to University this fall. Laura and Diana are both Seniors this year.  Here are a few preview shots from out session this afternoon. Thank you ladies for a great afternoon!

Living Vicariously.

My cousin Lauren is a journalism major at the U of M in Minneapolis and has some of the best homework assignments of anyone I know. This weekend I went with her to shoot an event for a project she was working on. The event was the closing celebration of The Soap Factory Presents: The New Land of Milk and Honey. I whole heartedly do not agree with their beliefs, but that has never been a prerequisite for photographing something. That’s the beauty in being an observer. These are just a few of my favorite photos of the day.
